A typical species of forest understory. It can be found from humid habitats of the Atlantic Forest to dry forests of the Central Chaco. Can be identified by its grey head and neck, white throat, and purple-brown back. Chest is slightly pink. Its voice is a series of prreeeep, preed, preed, preed, prr whistled,  first note rising and the others  descending in pitch and volume.
